The Overlooked Cause and Cure of Low Back Pain

The Overlooked Cause and Cure of Low Back Pain

When I was in my 20s, I was in an automobile accident. I was lucky. I escaped with a whiplash that left me with only occasional mild low back pain. Over the years, I’ve learned to manage this intermittent pain with stretching exercises, chiropractic and osteopathic manipulation, and walking. I haven’t had to take painkillers or curtail my activities like many people. I’m just reasonably careful and don’t have hobbies like racing cars or going hang-gliding. I am one of many people who has had back pain in the past that’s either been resolved or is manageable.

Throw Away Your Antacids! There’s a Better,
Safer Solution for Your Heartburn

If you have acid reflux, otherwise known as GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), you’re not alone. Ten percent of adults in the U.S. have heartburn, nausea, and other symptoms every single day. Most people take over-the-counter or prescription antacids because they block the production of irritating stomach acids and stop their pain.

But they’re a poor solution — especially Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) like Prilosec, Nexium, and Prevacid. PPIs may relieve your symptoms, but they have undesirable side effects like nausea and heart disease.

Sally knows she needs to get more exercise. She walks from her house to her car, and from her car to the grocery store. But that’s all. After walking just the equivalent of a block or two, she gets a terrible pain in her legs and has to rest. Then the pain goes away. But as soon as she resumes her walk, the pain returns and Sally needs to stop walking again.

Other than that, Sally is pain free. “It only hurts when I walk,” she explained.
