Water Keeps Skin Looking Young Into 90s

July 1, 2018

About 15 years ago, a beautiful 92-year-old woman walked into my office. She was accompanied by her 85-year-old sister. The women almost looked like twins, with one striking difference: their skin. The older sister had the most amazing skin I had ever seen on a woman her age. Her younger sister's skin was drier and considerably more wrinkled. When I saw Eloise alone, I asked her why her skin looked so much better than her younger sister's. Her answer was old news - but she was living proof that it WORKS.

When I asked Eloise about her skin-care secret, she gave me a big smile and a one-word answer: water. If you do absolutely nothing else for your skin, drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration. Don't wait until you get thirsty - drink water regularly throughout the day. I'd also be remiss if I overlooked this opportunity to mention my favorite beverage yet again. Not only will green tea help hydrate you, it will also reduce the inflammation that can break down the collagen in your skin, creating wrinkles and a tired appearance overall.

Speaking of inflammation, another key to keeping your skin healthy and beautiful is managing stress. I can't tell you how many women have told me that their skin looked so much better before they experienced a traumatic or stressful event, from the death of a loved one to a job change to a move. Stress is a major contributor to inflammation, and it can also affect other healthy habits that keep our skin looking its best, like sleeping well and choosing to eat a balanced diet full of whole foods. I'm sure Eloise hadn't lived 92 years without encountering some stress, but she'd obviously learned to handle it well.

If you're recovering from (or anticipating) a stressful season in your life, adaptogenic herbs, specifically Rhodiola, can be tremendously helpful in enabling you to better manage your stress. You'll find Rhodiola in Advanced Adrenal Factor. During stressful times, our adrenal glands can become depleted, and the adaptogenic herbs in this formula help restore them and bring them back into balance. It won't take the stress out of your life, but it will help take it out of your body, mind, and skin.
