We tend to think of superheroes as working in isolation. But even superheroes know that sometimes they work better as a team. Just look at the Justice League and the Avengers! Each member had his or her own powers, but they recognized that they needed each other and could get more done if they cooperated.
The same goes for some of the "super-nutrients" we often talk about. There are plenty of vitamins and antioxidants out there that seem to have superpowers when it comes to benefitting our health. But they work even better as a team — at least, that's what a recent study published in Current Alzheimer Research found.
For this study, researchers were investigating the effects various nutrients have on mice bred to imitate the effects of Alzheimer's disease. This is a model called senescence-accelerated mouse-prone 8 (SAMP8). Mice bred to be in a control group are called senescence-accelerated mouse resistant 1 (SAMR1) mice. The researchers formed five groups of mice: SAMP8 mice with no supplements, SAMR1 mice with no supplements, SAMP8 mice that received vitamin D, SAMP8 mice that received resveratrol, and SAMP8 mice that received both vitamin D and resveratrol. They used a Morris water maze to assess their cognitive function and examined their brains.

By the end of the study period, the mice that received both the vitamin D and the resveratrol were doing great, especially compared to the other groups. They did well on the test, and a number of markers commonly associated with Alzheimer's disease had improved. The researchers believe these results are a good indication that the combination of vitamin D and resveratrol could improve amyloidogenic pathways and neuroinflammation.
While this study was conducted with mice, there's plenty of evidence that both vitamin D and resveratrol are good for humans. This line of research indicates that combining them could help protect the brain in addition to all the other benefits they offer individually. More research is needed to confirm this, but since we already know that these nutrients are beneficial, it's a great idea to let these superheroes team up in your daily routine. Advanced Bionutritionals offers a high-quality vitamin D3 supplement as well as an Advanced Resveratrol Formula that includes not just resveratrol but a host of other powerful polyphenols.
