A few months ago, we discussed the connection researchers have uncovered between diabetes and breast cancer. It seems that there’s a correlation between diabetes, dense breasts, and breast cancer when diabetics have to use insulin injections to control blood sugar. Now, researchers at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center are pursuing another link between sugar and breast cancer.
The researchers knew that sugar, especially in the form of glucose, can affect the metabolic pathways involved in cancer development. But they wanted to investigate other forms of sugar as well, including sucrose and fructose (which you’ll recognize from high-fructose corn syrup). They noted that per capita sugar consumption in the U.S. has skyrocketed to over 100 pounds per year, and that sugary beverages (which are often laden with high-fructose corn syrup) are a major contributor. So they wanted to see what effects this may be having on our health.
To study this, they divided mice into four groups and fed them each a different diet. One ate a baseline diet, while the other groups were either starch-controlled, sucrose-enriched, or fructose-enriched. After six months, 30% of the starch group had mammary tumors. Even worse, 50 to 58% of the sucrose mice had them as well. The fructose mice didn’t fare well either. And their tumors, along with those of the sucrose group, were much more likely to metastasize to their lungs than were those of the starch-controlled mice.

Can You Restore Your Hearing by Taking Nutrients?

Understanding the factors that contribute to the development of breast cancer is important, particularly given its prevalence. But we already know that sugar is dangerous, even if we don’t know exactly how it affects breast cancer yet. So if you’re at all concerned about breast cancer, diabetes, or simply your health in general, it’s a wise idea to limit the amount of sugar in your diet – especially sugar-laden beverages. These drinks typically do nothing but harm to your health. Try my favorite drink, green or white tea, or herbal tea (such as hibiscus) instead, or just stick with water.
Even if you make an effort to limit the amount of sugar you consume, there’s always more you can do to ensure that your blood sugar stays at healthy, stable levels. One highly effective way to help maintain healthy blood sugar and insulin sensitivity is to take a formula like Advanced Blood Sugar Formula. It contains herbs and nutrients, including, gymnema, amla, bitter melon, and turmeric, that are shown to lower blood sugar. As research continues to grow on the role of sugar in cancer, we’ll be seeing more and more recommendations to limit sugar. Fortunately, you can start now.
